Nokia’s Ovi application store is now attracting one million downloads a day around the world, the company has claimed.

The store was launched last May, allowing the handset manufacturer to join the progress in apps being made by rivals such as Android and Apple. In addition, five million Ovi Mail accounts have been activated since late 2008. Ovi Mail is a free email service aimed at users in emerging countries who do not have access to computers.

The battle of the apps continues to rage. Nokia’s press release silences any doubts about them not being a serious contender in the app market. If we take into consideration that Nokia is the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world then we can grasp the magnitude of the base that Nokia can build on. Already outperforming rivals with their technical specifications, the Aca-Demy can’t wait to see how Nokia will shake things up in the app market.
